Fundraiser for the North Star Foundation at Tasti D Lite and Planet Smoothie of Montclair

On Saturday, April 5th, in honor of Autism Awareness Month, Tasti D Lite and Planet Smoothie of Montclair will host a fundraiser for the North Star Foundation.  A portion of the day’s revenue will be donated to North Star to further their work with breeding and training assistance dogs for children on the autism spectrum and those who face other challenges.

North Star Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to place assistance dogs with children who face challenges ranging from autism to serious medical conditions to grief over the loss of a parent. To aid in the social interaction aspect for children with autism, North Star’s goal is to pair children with puppies in training in order to help create the strongest bond possible between the child and the dog.

Patty Dobbs Gross, Executive Director of the North Star Foundation will be present at 12 Noon to answer questions and provide information about the North Star Foundation.  North Star dog, Nahly, a golden retriever, will also be present.

Jason Didner, leader of the kid-friendly band Jungle Gym Jam, host of TV-34's Cool Rockin' Daddy Video Show, and a member of Parents Who Rock, will be performing from 5p-7p. He will play acoustic rock-n-roll for all ages, including songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Smash Mouth, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and some of his own tunes, including the locally inspired "You Can't Get There from Here in Jersey" and "Jackals on the Prowl," as well as some kid-friendly creations that have made their rounds on radio internationally.

Jonah and Ellen Zimiles, the owners of WORDS Bookstore in Maplewood, will share the presence of their North Star dog, Daisy, a yellow labrador, at the fundraiser.
