Hairspray
Great music, dancing and a favorite story come to town when
the MKA Upper School Fine & Performing Arts Department presents Hairspray on February 28, March 1 and
March 2 in the Weiss Auditorium, 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair.
Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, teenager
Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny
Collins Show, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show,
she becomes an overnight celebrity and then launches a campaign to integrate
the show. While a penetrating social
commentary on the injustices of American society in the 1960's, Hairspray is also an entertaining, optimistic and
toe-tapping musical that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Cast members include Montclair residents
Kendal Barrett (Penny), Liam Gerard (Corny Collins), Emma Hart (Amber), John
Higgins (Edna Turnblad) and Sam Zinn (Wilbur) and professional musicians, sets
and costumes will add to the excitement.
