Hilary Shank Kuhl Trunk Show at The Store at MAM
The Store at MAM will host a trunk sale with local artist Hilary Shank Kuhl at December's Free First Thursday Night.
Hilary Shank Kuhl is a painter, assemblage artist, and jewelry maker. She has been a landscape and seascape painter for as long as she can remember and began making jewelry about 21 years ago. She is mostly self-taught. Her grandmother made silver jewelry as a hobby, which inspired her to explore metal-smithing and incorporate and silver and stones in her pieces. Subsequently metal and glass began appearing in her painting, which shifted to creating assemblages and mixed media art. Now, she often combines painting with maps, navigation charts, paper cutouts, and other objects. And of course, this influenced the jewelry, so along with the silver and vintage jewelry, she creates mixed media jewelry with paper, computer parts, old maps, stamps, and all sorts of found objects. Kuhl studied at the University of Pennsylvania and the Parsons School of Design.
