The Iris Gardens are renovating several historic
iris beds this summer and will be selling a limited number of identified iris
rhizomes from our heirloom collection, dating back to the 1500s - early 1900's.
Different varieties will be available in
July and August. This is an opportunity for
gardeners to add some unique, special and hard-to-find irises to their collection
or to recreate great grandma’s iris collection.
Each iris is identified by name, hybridizer and year of registry. Some of these irises can not be found for sale
anywhere else. Summer is the perfect time to be planting irises, giving
the new rhizomes plenty of time to establish themselves.
Additionally,
for the first time, historic iris rhizomes will also be available for online
purchase at Presby’s new online shop on Etsy:
www.etsy.com/shop/PresbyIris. Each week all summer long, new iris varieties
will be added to the PresbyIris Etsy shop.
For those who are unable to travel to the Gardens (or out-of-town
friends), this is a great way to acquire Presby’s beautiful irises and financially
support the Gardens. July 19-20 and
August 23-24 are also rhizome pick up days at the Gardens, for those who pre-ordered
unidentified rhizome “grab bags” during Bloom Season or wish to purchase “grab bags.” The Bloom Room Gift Shop, which features
garden-themed items, will be open. Some
summer sale items are priced at 50% off.
