“Hope for Peace" Celebration on the International Day of Peace


Transforming Hope into Action through Fair Trade, Art and Music
Saturday, September 21, 1-5 pm   

Terra at the Montclair Library (Montclair, NJ – September 6, 2013) Montclair joins a global community in celebrating the International Day of Peace, declared by the UN General Assembly as a day “devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.”  

A free, family oriented event will take place at the Montclair Public Library on Saturday, September 21st from 1-5pm sponsored by Terra.

The date fittingly coincides with the end of the 40th Anniversary year of Hope for the Flowers, an international peace story written and illustrated by Montclarian, Trina Paulus. 

ALL AFTERNOON -

Terra's Fair Trade treats
- A butterfly tent minus butterflies 
Folding origami peace cranes. Instructor Nancy Taiani will also sign her new children's book about Ramadan which fosters the understand leading to peace
- Creating Peace Flags all ages - led by Jennifer Levine and singer/songwriter Scott Massarsky.

AUDITORIUM –
1:30 - Alan Smith of the Porchistas will lead us in his classic Hope For the Flowers song 
1:30 – 2:00 - Short Hope Videos from around the world and video of Peace Garden Mural Project.
2:00 - “How a Story Can Help Heal” – Educator Bryan Ripley Crandall of Connecticut will describe in words and pictures how Hope For the Flowers has brought hope in the wake of the tragedy of Newtown.
2:30 – Educator and Author Scott Barry Kaufman tells what "Hope" did to free him, a child misdiagnosed and pushed aside, who has now found a niche and PhD from Yale celebrating the immense contributions of often misunderstood intelligences.
3:00 - Denise Lewis Patrick - with her stories from the African American community.
3:20 - Grace Grund talks about Terra's mission to build community through fair food and fair trade
3:40 - Trina Paulus - 40 Years of Hope - stories from around the world.
4 PM – Dedication of "Terra" as an official New Jersey Peace Action peace site - All invited to plant seeds of peace and hope- Installation of the peace flags on Terra’s café patio

(just after dedication event those that wish to participate in taking a photo for the 350.org action that day will decide on a location)
