Iris Rhizome Sale

September 20-21:  Iris Rhizome Sale at the Essex County
Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, 474 Upper Mountain Avenue, Upper Montclair,
NJ.  10 am – 3 pm.  The Iris Gardens are currently renovating several
of the non-bearded iris beds and will be selling a limited number Louisiana,
Japanese and Siberian iris rhizomes.  This
is our last rhizome sale of the 2013 season.

Louisiana Irises enjoy moist growing
conditions. While sometimes referred to as water irises, their only real
requirement is an area that does not dry out. Louisianas have large
flowers, often 4-6 inches across, and a flatter and wider bloom than bearded
irises.

Japanese Irises
generally bloom several weeks after tall bearded iris, in late June or early
July. They tend to be tall with large, colorful flowers up to 10 inches in
diameter.

Siberian Irises
form handsome clumps of grass-like foliage with a host of blooms rising on
elegantly thin stems. The flowers are smaller than bearded irises, but once the
blooms are gone, the foliage remains a highlight in the garden all season long.

Early fall is the perfect time to be planting these iris
varieties, which prefer to be transplanted in cooler weather, while still
giving them plenty of time to establish themselves.  This is a wonderful opportunity for gardeners
to add some unique, special and hard-to-find irises to their collection while
at the same time financially supporting the Iris Gardens.
