JERSEY WOMEN ARTISTS NOW: CONTEMPORARY VISIONS - March 6 - April 19, 2014

Featuring the work of 18 female artists who live or work in New Jersey. 

Curated by Allison Leigh, professor of Art History, the exhibition showcases the current works of New Jersey women artists in the following mediums: painting, sculpture, photography, print and drawing. 

Leigh states: "New Jersey played a prominent role in the history of women's professionalization as artists. In the twentieth century, several important events took place in New Jersey that would help usher in the feminist revolution in art." 

Featured in the show are : Lizz Andronaco, Mona Brody, Jennifer Cadoff, Giovanna Cecchetti, Nancy Cohen, Lauren Ennist, K.S. Ernst, Pat Feeney, Hanna Fink, Grace Graupe-Pillard, Joyce Kozloff, Dannielle Mick, Gina Minichino, Nancy Ori, Roslyn Rose, Joan Snyder, Leah Tomaino, and Nomi Waksberg. 

The George Segal Gallery also presents the following complementary educational programs: 

Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 3pm-5pm, panel discussion with artists Lizz Andronaco, Nancy Cohen, Nancy Ori, and curator Allison Leigh as moderator.

Thursday, April 10 2014, 6:00-7:30 pm, distinguished art historian Joan Marter will give a lecture on women artists. Registration required, $20 fee for adult, 20% discount for older adult with valid ID and free to students with valid ID.

The George Segal Gallery is located adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater, on the campus of Montclair State University, 1 Normal Ave., Montclair, New Jersey. Entry to the gallery is on the 4th level of the Red Hawk Parking Deck.

Hours: Tues., Wed., Fri., Sat.: 10am-5pm, Thur.: 12:30pm-7:30pm

About the George Segal Gallery

The George Segal Gallery is a 7,200 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. Completed in 2006, it houses the permanent collection of works by well-known artist George Segal and other 20th and 21st century artists. The gallery has been the recipient of the prestigious Citations of Excellence from the NJ State Arts Council for three consecutive years. 

Since its founding almost 40 years ago, the Montclair State Art Galleries has lived its mission to propagate culture and art through interpretive modern and contemporary art exhibitions and the presentation of related events using its collection as well as local, statewide and international sources.
