NJ EMERGING ARTISTS SERIES: Alexa Garbarino – “Better Days”

  • NJ EMERGING ARTISTS SERIES: Alexa Garbarino – “Better Days”
  • July 12 - August 11, 2013
  • Opening Reception July 12, 6 - 8 pm (Free and open to the public)
  • This exhibition features painterly photographs of ranches and farms along the Northern California coastline that the artist has documented over a period of time during yearly trips as a child and now with her own family.
Artist’s Statement: I’ve known these ranches and dairy farms my whole life; they were already century-old landmarks on the roads I traveled as a child with my family on weekend trips to Inverness, just north of San Francisco. Some of these farms are still in business while others are closed and shuttered, historic beacons dotting the Point Reyes National Seashore. I feel a kind of ownership to these structures as I literally grew up watching them thrive or fade over the years, photographing them along the way. And I am reassured as I pass them today on yearly trips with my own family... when I see them, I know exactly where I am.
Gallery Talk - Wednesday August 7, 2013, 7 - 8 pm Alexa Garbarino will share insights on her work in a discussion at the Museum. (Free and open to the public).
