Open Studios at Montclair State University MFA Studio Arts

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art program is holding its annual Open Studio December 6, 6-10 p.m., in Finley Hall, for the general public to view and discuss works and works in progress created by the program's 19 MFA candidates. The students' works in progress investigate various ideas including: interspecies art making, the peripatetic artist, propaganda and sloganeering, memory palaces and aphasia, the impact of intercultural politics and aesthetic in performance, facetious painting, and many other territories. Come to the open studio, see the work, speak to the artists. 

The artists are: Jeremy G. Bell, Teresa Braun, Steven Douglass, Carl Glasemeyer, Amanda  Hart, Brian Haverlock, Dana Hemes, Natasha Jozi, Angela Kelliher, Daniel Morowitz, Irena Pejovic, Kristopher Phillips, John Ryan, John Spano, Alexandra Schoenberg, Christine Soccio, Esmeralda Vazquez, Jacqueline Walsh, and Fei Fei Yang.

The MFA Studio Arts program at Montclair State University is a full-time two year residential program where students experiment and create multidisciplinary works. The students progress through an aesthetically and intellectually rigorous program, centered upon the trajectory and implications of the their works, their futures and how these relate to the art worlds in which they will participate. 

Recent lecturers and visitors include: Fred Tomaselli, Mark Dion, Ann Hamilton, Wangechi Mutu, Hank Willis Thomas, Saya Wollfalk, William Villalonga, and this year’s visiting critic is Eleanor Heartney.
