Paul Gaugin: The Work and the Man

In response to the popularity of Suzanne Altman’s last art lecture back in October, MPL will again welcome the painter and art educator. Altman will focus on the artist Paul Gauguin, whose work goes on exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) beginning March 8. The talk, titled "Gauguin: The Work and the Man," will highlight both the artist’s work and his turbulent life. The MOMA exhibit focuses on Gauguin’s rare and extraordinary prints and transfer drawings, and their relationship to his better-known paintings and his sculptures in wood and ceramic. Comprising approximately 150 works, including some 120 works on paper and a critical selection of some 30 related paintings and sculptures, it is the first exhibition to take an in-depth look at this overall body of work. Although the exhibit ends June 8, the first 40 attendees to Altman’s talk will receive complimentary admission passes for a visit to MOMA any time in 2014.
