Renowned German Orchestra in Concert at MKA

On Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. Montclair Kimberley Academy will host the Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University, Tübingen, Germany in concert at the MKA Upper School Weiss Auditorium, 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture, Robert Schumann’s 4th Symphony, and the US premiere of MKA Music Director Randall Svane’s Violin Concerto.  Renowned German violinist Julia Galic will be the soloist.  Tübingen University’s Music Director Philipp Amelung will conduct.

The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University was founded in 1837.  Today, it includes over 90 members whose repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the Modern, and includes pieces such as Artur Honegger’s 3rd Symphony, Gustav Mahler’s 4th Symphony, the Organ Symphony of Camille Saint-Saens and Bruckner’s 4th Symphony.  The orchestra has performed throughout at music festivals throughout Europe and the US and premiered Svane’s Violin Concerto in Tübingen in July 2013.

This concert is part of the orchestra’s current US tour, which includes concerts at William Paterson University (10/11 at 12:30 p.m.), and St. Bart’s Church, 325 Park Avenue and 51st Street, NYC (October 11 at 7:30 p.m.).  For more information, contact Randall Svane at rsvane@mka.org.
