Each year the Montclair State University Student Recreation Center hosts a spectacular event known as Special Friends Day. Special Friends Day allows the special needs children of the community to spend a fun filled day with the students of Montclair State University. For this day the Recreation Center is transformed into a fun themed play area to accommodate the needs of the children. Each special friend is assigned two buddies to spend the day with. The children will be able to participate in their choice of many fun and exciting activities such as: sports, swimming, dance parties, arts and crafts, board games, and giveaways. The day is dedicated to doing whichever activities the child desires to make memories they will cherish forever.
Special Friends Day was created to give back to the community but has evolved into a much greater experience. It is heart warming to see the bright and shining smiles of the children who participate. In the past we have maxed out our capacity with about 100 special friends and around 250 volunteers. Students from all over campus come out to celebrate Special Friends Day each year, as well as about 15 campus organizations.If you would like to sign your child up to participate in this life changing event please click here to do so.
