Watchung Booksellers Author Event - Katy Butler, "Knocking on Heaven's Door"

When Katy Butler’s father suffered a devastating stroke, it put Katy and her mother into the role of full-time caregivers. Together they faced a series of wrenching moral questions: when does death cease being a curse and become a blessing? Where is the line between saving life and prolonging a dying? When is the right time to say to a doctor, “Let my loved one go”? With a reporter’s skill, a poet’s eye, and a daughter’s love, "Knocking on Heaven’s Door" explores what happens when our terror of death collides with the technological imperatives of modern medicine.

Katy Butler, a National Magazine Award finalist, has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, and other publications. A winner of the “Science in Society” award from the National Association of Science Writers, she lives in northern California.
