Your Food and Jobs: Effects of the TPP and reasons to stop it!

     Do you care about having access to local and sustainably produced food?  Or protecting your drinking water?  Are you concerned about corporate influence distorting our elections?
     If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, come on Wednesday, February 19th, to hear Matt Smith speak about, "Your food and jobs - effects of the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) and reasons to stop it."  The presentation will uncover the facts surrounding an unprecedented proposed corporate power grab and what we can do to stop it.
     The program will begin at 7:30 PM, at St. Peter Claver Church, 56 Elmwood Avenue, Montclair.  Elmwood is three blocks south of Bloomfield Avenue off Elm Street; the church is five properties from Elm Street on the south side with a parking lot in the back.  Admission is free, but donations welcome.  Co-sponsors include the Cornucopia Network of New Jersey, Food and Water Watch, GMO Free NJ, Genesis Farm, and The Essex County Green Party.
     Matt Smith is a regional organizer for Food & Water Watch, focusing on efforts in Northern New Jersey.  He is responsible for developing and implementing legislative, field organizing, and media strategies and campaigns in support of Food & Water Watch policy goals.  Previously Matt was a state coordinator for 350.org in NJ.  Matt currently also works to build relationships between community organizations and the frontline communities that are facing the direct impacts of fossil fuel development.
      He is passionate about engaging youth in efforts to build lasting political power, and has worked to bring students together for workshops and skills-based trainings to help build power in the student movement. Matt is not afraid to get his hands dirty; he spent a summer working on an organic farm in NY, just prior to starting with Food & Water Watch.  He holds a B.S. degree in Finance from Philadelphia University.
