The Junior League of Montclair-Newark Inc. (JLMN) will host its third annual "Run 4 Children at Risk" in Montclair on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will help support the JLMN’s programs to help children at risk in Montclair, Newark and surrounding communities.
“Now in its third year, the JLMN Run for Children at Risk has become an eagerly anticipated family event that sheds a spotlight on the importance of health and fitness," said JLMN President Sandra Funk Levy.
Levy added, “But our race is much more than a great morning out - it also supports important programs for children in need and it underscores our mission to improve the community and promote voluntarism.
All three events start at Montclair's Woodman Field, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., rain or shine.
The events include: a 4-mile race through Brookdale Park, a 1-mile fun run, and kids races on the track.
What sets the race apart from other fall runs, organizers explain, is the 4-mile and 1-mile events are both certified by the USA Track & Field organization (USATF), which is very important to most road runners.
Registration will also be possible on-site at Woodman Field, intersection of Chestnut Street and Essex Avenue.
