Montclair 5K Honors Lifelong Resident Killed in Hit-and-Run

Second annual Doug Williams 5000 Meter Run set for Sept. 29.

The second annual Doug Williams 5000 Meter Run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The one-mile and 5K runs, start and end at the Montclair Art Museum at 8:30 and 9 a.m. sharp, and celebrate the memory of lifelong Montclair resident and Essex Running Club member Doug Williams.

Runners will be treated to a post-race breakfast and have the option to toast their finish with a bottle of Magic Hat, Williams' favorite beer.

Williams was killed in a hit-and-run while walking home from Tierney's after grabbing a bite to eat in October 2011. He was 49.

"To date, the driver of that vehicle has never come forward, nor ever been found," according to the race registration form. "In that moment, we were robbed of a man known by all for his gentle soul, trademark laugh, and caring nature."

Williams was an avid runner, participating in many world-class marathons.
