Healthy Heritage Harvest Parade and Fest Set for Thursday

Halloween night event will be held at new headquarters for the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation.

Councilor Renee Baskerville and the Fourth Ward Collaborative will host the first annual Healthy Heritage Harvest (H3) Parade and Fest on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event will be held at 11 Pine Street, the new headquarters for the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation, Succeed Together, SOPHIA, and Brother-to-Brother — organizations which are part of the Collaborative.

The “H3” celebration will provide children and families a smarter, safer, healthier, more fun and meaningful alternative to traditional Halloween customs and traditions. The event will have storytelling, music, and family games.

Those who want to come in costume are encouraged to wear outfits that reflect the richness and diversity of the community’s culture. There will also be a parade of stars with children divided into age groups to show off their costumes. Local chef Abraham Dickerson will prepare a dinner for the evening.

“We want to offer a happy, healthful experience for the children in our community,” said Councilwoman Baskerville. “Halloween takes place during harvest time and we’d like to mark the time of year in a way that may be meaningful to everyone.”

Each child will be treated to a bag of healthful snack options and a packet of seeds to plant for next year’s harvest.

The H3 event will also be a way for the public to see the new community service groups' headquarters. The organizations will have helpful information about all of the various services they provide to the community.
