Off the Mat…Into New Jersey!

Yogis gather in Atlantic City to support Hurricane Sandy Relief.

If you’re a yogi looking for a way to pitch in and help our state in its continuing recovery after Hurricane Sandy, here’s a perfect opportunity. Join the Off the Mat, Into New Jersey event in our Garden State on Saturday, December 22nd.  Inspired by New Jersey’s own Seane Corn, the co-founder of Off the Mat into the World, this event will help raise funds for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief and Global Green USA. Says Corn, “Having grown up in New Jersey, any devastation to New Jersey goes right to my heart and roots. When Hurricane Sandy happened I knew I needed to do something to help.”

The event is being held at the Atlantic City Convention Center, 1 Convention Blvd, from 12 to 3 pm (doors open at 10:30 a.m. when a silent auction is being held). You can also tune into the live stream of the event at www.studiolivetv.com/otminj.

Awesome yoga teachers (New Jersey-born) will include Seane Corn, Elisabeth Halfpapp, Fred DeVito and Beryl Bender Birch, among others, with music to be provided by Montclair’s Dalien13Hands. A moving video shot by documentary filmmakers RJ Lill will also be shown.

Says one of the event organizers, New Jersey’s own Debby Kaminsky, who oversees the State’s annual Global Mala event, “It is heart-warming to see so many wonderful people come together, break down barriers and work together to do their part in helping to raise valuable funds for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. There are many stellar teachers giving the world the opportunity to experience their teachings while making a valuable contribution to Hurricane Sandy Relief. It is a true testament to the importance of human kindness and care.”  Key sponsors of this event include Off the Mat, Into the World, exhale mind body spas, the Atlantic City Alliance and a number of passionate individuals from the tri-State area.

You can sign up for this event at www.offthematintotheworld.org/new-jersey/event or you can go to www.studiolivetv.com/otminj for the live stream, on event day for a donation of $25 for individuals and $100 for a yoga studio. In addition, Studio Live TV created a Hurricane Relief page where for a donation you can take classes with these and other amazing teachers, including Shiva Rea, Jillian Pransky and Cristi Christensen. A single class viewing is $25 and an unlimited two-week viewing of classes is $60.

On Friday, December 21, there will also be a fund-raising event at Bask by Exhale in Atlantic City, with proceeds also going to the Off the Mat NJ fund.

And, you can order a cool Off the Mat Into New Jersey Tee to help support this cause at http://livebreathegrow.com/shop.html.

In addition, there will be a toy collection in conjunction with Second Chance Toys to benefit a shelter in Hoboken so bring your donation to the Atlantic City event if you can.

Yogis, the storm has passed but the healing continues. If you possibly can, come to this wonderful event in Atlantic City, or tune in online and make your donation. Organizers are hoping to raise 500 K to support this cause. Go to the website or visit Off the Mat into New Jersey on Facebook to find out more. Namaste!
