Stretch & Sip: Yoga & Wine for a Cause

Yogis & friends gather to support kids in need at this unique fund-raiser.

Doing anything this coming Saturday, Feb. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.? If you don’t have plans (or even if you do) consider supporting Yoga Montclair in its efforts to reach out to area youth in need.

Stretch & Sip: Yoga & Wine is a fundraiser dedicated to raising money to support Essex County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), an independent, court-authorized nonprofit organization that works through specially trained and supervised volunteers to promote the welfare of children in Essex County who have been removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or abandonment.

Julie Margolis, a long time local yoga instructor, will lead an hour-long all-levels practice in Yoga Montclair’s lovely and spacious studio on Forest Street. This will be followed by an hour of wine tasting with local sommelier extraordinaire Sharla Blanz, along with a cheese tasting and community gathering.

No experience is necessary but come with a desire to participate, enjoy and give back. It matters not whether you’ve ever been on a yoga mat before or if you’re a yogi pro—the class will suit all levels. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to supporting the kids. You can sign up by calling Yoga Montclair or going online at the CASA website with PayPal or credit card. Suggested minimum donation is $30 and up.

All are welcome (but you must be at least 21).

Says Margolis: “CASA serves as a foster child’s ‘voice in court,’ working to ensure that needed services and assistance are made available while helping to move the child towards a safe and permanent home. Every dollar raised at this event will go directly to ensuring that these kids have a CASA, a voice and guiding hand through the system.”

So join Yoga Montclair in “a circle of support for a child!” If you can make a difference in the life of a child while practicing yoga and having fun why not go for it?
