They Too Serve

Thoughts on the departure of a candidate for President

I am not a political junkie but I do find political races fascinating. I still recall an interview with Rick Santorum pre-Iowa and find it to have been of note. The former Senator said he had a feeling things were breaking his way. He was right. Now, he too is merely a footnote in the present race. However, I believe that all who run have something to offer, ideas worth considering, and a perspective that will often outlast their appearance in the race. Mr. Santorum's thinking is not my thinking, but that is besides the point. He had positions and ideas worth considering, even if those thoughts were ultimately rejected. We grow by hearing other points of view. Taking new perspectives into account is part of our growth as human beings. No one is all right or all wrong. Truth is an amalgam of differing interests and beliefs. How many things that we do will outlive us? Not many. At the very least, those who run, and lose, have served our national interests well. Not bad for one individual to ponder as he plans for the rest of his life.
