Butoh Dance to Benefit the Children of Cambodia

This Open House Party filled with music, dance, food and fair trade goods will further help the mission to rescue and rehabilitate victims of child trafficking and youth at risk.

Yogadesha studio, located at Watchung Plaza in Montclair, will host an Open House and dance performance party on Saturday, April 6th  from 6:30-10pm.

This by donation event, filled with music, dance, food and fair trade goods, will
benefit the Cambodian Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights’ (CCPCR)
and their mission to rescue, protect and rehabilitate victims of child
trafficking and youth at risk.

The evening will feature world-renowned Butoh Dance performer, Lena Ang.  She will present a collaborative piece, entitled Water Garden, with musician Peter Vitalone created especially for Saturday’s event.  This performance piece is inspired by the cycle of sexual slavery, rescue and hope.

I sat down with Butoh Dance Performing and fellow yoga teacher, Ms Ang this week.  She explained to me the parallels of Butoh Dance and yoga.

“Butoh Dance starts with meditation.  A specific vision, emotion or experience can inspire the movement in the body.  It begins in the present moment and gently
comes to fruition.”

Ms. Ang creates a blend of culture and movement to communicate contemporary subjects based on shared pasts.  With an international background that includes Malaysia, Europe, Honolulu and New York, Butoh Dance is the right form of expression for Ms. Ang to bring awareness to the trafficking in Cambodia.

This open house kicks off Yogadesha’s commitment to raising awareness and helping to rescue trafficked victims – especially young girls – around the world.  The topic is serious but the party is focused on fun, food, dance and friendship.

Located at Watchung Plaza, Yogadesha will open its doors from 6:30-10pm, for this fun and inspiring event.
