Does Applegate Farm Make Your List of Top Ice Cream Shops in America?

Ice cream business celebrating 165th anniversary in Montclair.

TripAdvisor released a list of the Top 10 Ice Cream Shops in America for travelers to check out this summer.

But we think there's an oversight or at least the need to add a No. 11 to the list.

Montclair's Applegate Farm is celebrating its 165th anniversary in 2013 with the motto, "Surviving The Civil War, The Great Depression & Two World Wars."

The original location at 616 Grove St. still boasts the original red silo built in 1919 on the same land where Golden Guernsey milk products were once produced.

Flavors range from all the traditional favorites to their own creations, like Caramel Cow, Frozen Hot Chocolate and Graham Central Station.

The tradition of purchasing ice cream from the barn and sitting around the parking lot with old and new friends is one repeated generation after generation.

But there's more to Applegate's than ice cream.

This summer, they will once again host a Family Fun Night on Wednesdays with free movie screenings as well as magic shows on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

See The Amazing Spider Man under the stars on July 3 at 8 p.m. DJ, games, prizes and other entertainment start at 6 p.m.

But you don't have to travel to Montclair to get your Applegate fix. Satellite locations include Nutley, Clifton, East Hanover, Hoboken and Freehold.

Is Applegate Farm your favorite ice cream shop? What's your favorite flavor? Tell us in the comments.
