Pig & Prince Celebrates First Year With Anniversary Ale

Montclair restaurant throwing a pig roast on the new patio Saturday.

Pig & Prince Restaurant & Gastrolounge in Montclair will celebrate its one-year anniversary Saturday by throwing a pig roast and tapping a limited-edition Pig & Prince Anniversary Ale by Ramstein.

The celebration will take place on the new patio outside the restaurant at 1 Lackawanna Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

In addition to the pig roast there will be tastings of Pig & Prince Chef/Partner Michael Carrino’s signature foods, a deejay, drink specials and activities for kids.

Admission is $10 per person and covers all patio food, including pulled pork, brisket, cornbread and coleslaw.

“We wanted to do something different to celebrate while continuing to bring unique food and drink opportunities to Montclair’s dining scene, said Carrino. “We think that unveiling our own limited-edition IPA will do just that.”

The Pig & Prince Anniversary Ale created by Butler-based High Point Brewing Company is a pale ale style beer made from European pale malted barley and hops from Germany and the Pacific Northwest. Pints will be specially priced at $4. One- and two-liter growlers will be available for takeaway.

Carrino is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. At 28, he was inducted into the prestigious society of wine gurus, chefs, hotel executives and restaurant owners, known as The Chaîne des Rotisseurs.

The chef was declared the winner of his episode of Food Network’s popular cooking competition, Chopped.

He recently accepted his fifth invitation to cook for members of the James Beard Foundation in New York.
