Montclair Voters Pick Booker, Lonegan in U.S. Senate Primary

How Montclair voted in the special primary.

Montclair election results mirrored state totals with voters favoring Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Steve Lonegan in Tuesday's special primary.

According to unofficial results, Booker and Lonegan received 2,663 and 161 votes respectively in Montclair in an August primary for the U.S. Senate seat of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg. The candidates have eight weeks to campaign before the Oct. 16 special election.

While Newark's Mayor Booker was favored throughout the Democratic-stronghold, the Fourth Ward, which is predominantly African-American, showed the greatest support for Booker with 882 votes. The township's First, Second and Third wards gave Booker 513, 684 and 584 votes respectively.

Of Montclair's 29,991 registered voters, only about 15 percent made it to the polls, according to information released by the township clerk's office.

A total of 4,125 registered Democrats and 243 registered Republicans voted Tuesday.

The following is a breakdown of preliminary results, which do not include mail-in ballots or absentee votes.
