Maxine A Tillery, 90, Inspired Many Young Women

Tillery spent most of her life in Montclair

 

Maxine Tillery, 90, of Glen Ridge passed away quietly on Feb. 15, 2012 at Cedar Hill Health Center in Cedar Grove.

Born in Kenbridge, Virginia on Sept. 22, 1921, the oldest of three children, Tillery spent the majority of her life in Montclair. Upon graduation from Montclair High School, she embarked on a career as a professional bookkeeper, a career she continued after her marriage to William Tillery in 1947. She was an active, contributing member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and a lifelong member of the Circlettes, a national social club for women. Tillery was high spirited, loved life family and friends. She lived with dignity, serving as a positive role model and mentor to young women.

Tillery is survived by her sister Margaret Meacham, brother Douglas Allen, Sr., and former husband of many years William Tillery. She leaves behind a niece, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Hannie Rudd Allen and Douglas Allen, Sr.
