Obit: Bloomfield Firefighter John Orme, 23

The following message was sent to Patch by a friend of beloved Bloomfield firefighter John Orme, a lifelong Bloomfield resident who passed away over the Memorial Day weekend.

Here is a note about the passing of 23 year old volunteer firefighter John Orme. While his passing was unrelated to firefighting, his presence as a firefighter and volunteer will be deeply felt.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Bloomfield Fire Department and the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire-Rescue Company lost one their most dedicated brothers.

Firefighter John Orme passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening at Mountainside Hospital.

John had attended Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington where he was an indispensable and leading member on their 2004 state championship football team. John continued to play football at William Paterson University and then with the semi-pro Brooklyn Mariners.

John was a life-long resident of Bloomfield, and he always wanted to give back to the community he loved so much. In 2007 John joined the volunteer rescue company of the Bloomfield Fire Department. From the first day he joined the department, john always went above and beyond in his dedication to helping the community.

John prided himself on being the first person to respond and one of the last to leave a call or his duty shift. No matter what was asked of him, John would never say "no," and he would enthusiastically complete his assignment to the best of his ability. Whether it was responding to a structure fire, auto accident, assisting the Bloomfield Police, assisting township residents during storms, or visiting with school children, John was there to give of himself and help others.

Firefighter John Orme will be dearly missed by all members of the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire-Rescue Company, the Bloomfield Fire Department and the township at-large.

Rest In Peace John
