Father Thought Burglar Was His Son

Montclair homeowner reports numerous electronics stolen from his Dodd Street home.

A person a homeowner thought was his son turned out to be a burglar who made off with numerous electronics from a Dodd Street home.

The homeowner said he was lying down in his second floor bedroom just before midnight on August 17 when he heard his front door open. Since he thought it was his son, he said, he did not get up right away.

When he heard footsteps walking around the first floor, the homeowner said he got up and called out to his son from the top of the stairs. That's when he said he saw a tall person run out the front door. He went to a first floor window and watched the man he described as about six-feet tall and wearing a baseball cap get into a white or light sedan and drive off on Dodd towards Ridgewood Avenue.
