Fire Ravages Montclair Home

Fire officials remain on the scene of Orange Road blaze.

Update: Montclair Firefighter Injured in Monday Night Fire

Firefighters remain on the scene Tuesday morning of a fire that ravaged a single-family home on Orange Road Monday night.

A fire broke out at 229 Orange Road around 8:30 p.m., according to a neighbor who could see the flames and smoke from her nearby home.

The cause and origin of the blaze was not immediately known. Fire officials were not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

There are unconfirmed reports that a firefighter was hospitalized.

Damage could be seen throughout the two-and-half-story stucco house, where part of the top floor is now exposed.

Neighbor Sandy Broadbent said she watched through the night as firefighters attempted to control the stubborn fire which burned for hours.

"There was a lot of smoke," Broadbent said. "It was still going at 12:30 a.m."

The house faces the Brookside Campus of Montclair Kimberley Academy.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Correction: The story originally reported the house number as 231 Orange Road.
