Home Burglarized While Residents on Vacation, Police Nab Man with Fake Check

Montclair Police Department arrested Ginodu Salami, 19, of Queens, N.Y, at Starbucks last week for a fraudulent check.


A resident returned from vacation to find his home on Alexander Avenue burglarized, according to police. 

The resident left his home on Oct. 4 and returned on Oct. 12 to find the rear door of his house pried open and his rummaged through. 

He reported missing approximately $2,500 worth of jewelry, including 10 pairs of earrings, two watches and a bracelet, according to police.

In other police news, a 19-year-old was also arrested last week for trying to cash a fraudulent check. 

Ginodu Salami, of Queens, N.Y., walked into the Starbucks on Park Street at about 2:13 p.m. on Oct. 12 and tried to pay with a check, according to reports. When the employee attempted to verify it with the bank, Salami became nervous and fled the story. 

The bank told the employee that the check was a fake, and Salami had cashed numerous other fraudulent checks.

One of the Starbucks employees flagged down an nearby police officer, and Salami was arrested. He was charged with forgery and theft by deception, according to police.
