Man Snatches Cell Phone From Woman in Watchung Plaza

Montclair Police say thief asked victim for the time.

Montclair Police are looking for a man they say asked a woman for the time and then grabbed her cell phone out of her hand in Watchung Plaza last week. 

The strong armed robbery took place outside the Chinese restaurant in the plaza on August 20 at 9:55 p.m.

The victim told police a man approached her and asked for the time. She said she took her iPhone 5 out of her purse to check the time and he snatched the cell phone from her hand.

The thief, police said, ran east toward Fairfield Street and then south on South Fullerton Avenue.

The thief was described as a black man approximately 18-years-old, measuring about 5’10” wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

The cell phone was in a blue and grey case.
