Janet Lee, his mother, said Culbertson grew up in Montclair and moved into the Verona apartment about a year ago.

“I think it is best to let the police handle the investigation the way they like,” said Lee. “It’s probably best I don’t say too much.”

Culbertson currently lives a small three-story apartment building on Montrose Avenue in Verona. Verona Police have been distributing fliers around the township with his photo on them.

Culbertson is known to frequent Panera Bread in Montclair where he plays chess, according to police. Culbertson has no conspicuous marks, scars or tattoos, officials said, but four of his upper front teeth are implants and may be noticeable when he smiles.

Lee added that he occasionally ate at Chinese restaurants, pizzerias and other fast-food eateries on Bloomfield Avenue.

Although none of his neighbors seemed to know him well, they had seen him coming in and out of the building. The news of his disappearance appeared to shock some of the residents in the apartment building.

“I only saw him about once or twice before, but I was surprised to hear he is missing,” said one resident who asked not to be named.
