Montclair Fire Department Swears in Probationary Firefighter

Sam Bendtsen will attend the Essex County Police and Fire Academy before being assigned to a township engine company.

Sam Bendtsen was sworn in this morning as a Probationary Firefighter by Municipal Clerk Linda Wanat in township Council Chambers.

Bendtsen will be required to attend the Essex County Police and Fire Academy for nine weeks where he will undergo Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 training. Areas covered include fire behavior, use of ground ladders, live fire training, building construction, vehicle extrication and others. 

Upon graduation from the academy, Bendtsen will be assigned to a tour and will be placed on an engine company for six months. His company officer will cover department policies, rules and regulations with him; will teach him engine company tactics and will assist him in becoming proficient in the use of all equipment on the engine.
