Montclair Man Chases Would-Be Burglar Off His Property

Lorraine Avenue resident came home to find stranger peering into his kitchen window.

A Lorraine Avenue man chased a suspected burglar off his property after he caught him peering into a rear window of his house late on New Year’s Eve, Montclair Police Lt. Det. Angel Roman said.

Police arrived at the scene of the attempted burglary at 10:49 p.m. on Dec. 31 shortly after the resident said he had come home to find a stranger standing on a patio chair and looking into a kitchen window.

The suspect jumped off the chair and brushed past him without making eye contact, police said. The homeowner, police said, asked him what he was doing and received a muttered apology about having the wrong house.
