Montclair Man Crashes Truck Into Parked Cars, Trees and Pole

Driver charged with suspicion of DWI.

A Montclair man may face DWI charges after police say he drove a truck into parked cars, trees and a utility pole on Elm Street.

Police responded to an accident at 113 Elm St. on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 6:48 p.m. and found Layne Sinclair, 49, sitting near his truck surrounded by debris.

The truck was facing southbound in the northbound lane of traffic and had struck two parked cars, two trees and a pole, Lt. Det. Angel Roman said. The utility pole was broken in half and lying on the truck with live wires around it.

Sinclair had “an obvious slurred speech, bloodshot/watery eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic emanating from his breath,” Roman said.

Sinclair failed sobriety tests conducted at the scene of the accident and refused medical help, he said.

He was charged with suspicion of DWI and careless driving.
