Montclair Man Leads Police on Car Chase, Flees into West Orange

William Barba, of Montclair, is wanted on a $75,000 warrant after throwing a cinder block at a parked car and fleeing from police.

Montclair Police are looking for a 22-year-old resident who led officers on a car chase and escaped into West Orange. 

Police saw William Barba, of Montclair, get out of a car at the intersection of Fulton and Miller streets on Feb. 21 at about 2:02 a.m. and pick up a piece of cinder block and throw it at a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the street.

When police pulled up to Barba, he jumped into his tan Buick Regal and fled. Police chased Barba throughout Montclair as he sped through stop signs and traffic lights. At one point, Barba nearly struck a police cruiser head-on, according to police.

Officers ended the pursuit once Barba was identified. He was last seen speeding on Main Street in West Orange, according to reports. 

Barba has been charged with eluding police, criminal mischief and issued several summonses for motor vehicle infractions, according to police.

Barba is wanted on a $75,000 warrant.
