Montclair: Meet Your New Community Service Officers

All members of new community policing unit call township home.

The three officers chosen to launch the Montclair Police Department's new Community Service Unit (CSU) all have deep roots in town.

Two are Montclair High School graduates, and the third is married to a woman whose family has called Montclair home for generations.

They have children in the school system, coach youth sports and "bleed Mountie blue" in the words of Sgt. Tyrone Williams, who heads the unit.

The trio's familiarity with Montclair is expected to give them an advantage in their new role. The unit is charged with getting to know residents and their concerns as a way to curb crime and increase quality of life throughout the town.

Here's a little background about each member of the CSU. You'll see them walking around in town in their casual Mountie blue uniforms, as well as at sports games and other community events.

Sgt. Tyrone Williams

Sgt. Williams is in his 14th year with the Montclair Police Department. He has served in the detective bureau since 2001. Williams is married to a school teacher in the district whose family has lived in Montclair for multiple generations. He coaches girls basketball for the Police Athletic League, and also coaches the Montclair High School girls varsity team during the summer and fall.

Officer Jacqueline Allen

Officer Allen is a 1992 graduate of Montclair High School. She has been with the MPD for 19 years. Allen and her husband have six daughters and two grandchildren.

Officer Rikki Cook

Cook grew up in Montclair and played football for MHS. He was named New Jersey offensive player of the year and went on to be a fullback for the University of North Carolina. After college, he became a police officer in Durham. He was recruited to the MPD three years ago. Cook coaches the Cobras youth football team.
