Officer Slams Head While Arresting Montclair Teen

Montclair teen faces multiple charges including aggravated assault of a police officer.

The following arrest information was provided by Montclair Police. The subject is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

A police officer who struck his head on a patrol car while attempting to arrest a Montclair man was sent to the hospital, Montclair Police Lt. Det. Angel Roman said. 

Stevenson Pena, 19, of Montclair, faces multiple charges after police say they saw him hit the driver of a gray Nissan Altima while he was a passenger in the car.

An officer immediately attempted to arrest Pena, which Roman said led to a struggle that caused him to hit his head on the patrol car as he and Pena fell to the ground.

The incident occurred in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Mission Street on Wednesday, Oct. 16 around 8:14 a.m. when police responded to a report of a disturbance.

Pena has been charged with simple assault, aggravated assault of a police officer, and resisting arrest.

The officer was taken to University Hospital in Newark as a precaution and was released later that afternoon.
