Neighbor Sees Thief Take Off With Acura in Montclair

Highland Avenue homeowner told police she left car unattended in driveway.

An Acura left warming up in Montclair was reported stolen on the morning of Dec. 11, Montclair Lt. Det. Angel Roman said.

The homeowner told police at 7:31 a.m. that she left her 2008 Gray Acura RDX turned on and unattended in her driveway.

A neighbor told police he saw a white Range Rover with two occupants and a blue Acura pull up in front of a house on the 100 block of Highland Avenue. He said the passenger got out of the Range Rover and jumped in the gray Acura in his neighbor's driveway. All three cars took off.

The neighbor described the car thieves as dark skinned, dressed in mechanic's clothes, or jumpsuit styled jackets, with hooded sweatshirts underneath. He said all three men were wearing kufis, or brimless, tight-fitting caps, and had thin, chin-strap style beards.

The area has seen a surge of cars stolen while left warming up since the onset of colder temperatures, according to a Nixle alert from West Caldwell Police.
