A family returned home from a New Year’s Eve outing to find their home burglarized, Montclair Police Lt. Det. Angel Roman said.

After putting her son down to sleep in an upstairs bedroom, police said, a woman and her husband returned downstairs and noticed a side door open and a kitchen window broken and unlocked. Jewelry and a pillow were reported stolen from an upstairs bedroom.

The victim told police they left their house on the 700 block of Valley Road at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and returned home at about 12:45 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Police said a green patio chair was pushed up against the kitchen window and it is believed the burglar or burglars entered through the window and exited through the side door.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Det. Terence Turner at 973-509-4724.
