Pair Accused of Vandalizing Cabs at Montclair Taxi Stand

18-year-old Montclair resident and a juvenile were arrested Friday.

A teen and a juvenile were arrested Friday after vandalizing cabs at a taxi stand on Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair Police said.

Tamaad Thompson, 18, of Montclair, was charged with resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, criminal mischief and employing a minor in the commission of a crime.

The minor was turned over to the Juvenile Aid Bureau.

According to police, officers responded to a report of vandalism at Montclair Taxi at 358 Bloomfield Ave.

Officers located an adult man and a juvenile matching the descriptions of those responsible for the vandalism, police said. Thompson took off on foot when officers attempted to detain him but was apprehended on Pine Street, police said.

The victim told officers he was inside the taxi stand when he heard loud bangs coming from outside. The victim then observed two people standing at the driver's side of his cab, police said. The vandals were pushing the door open, hyper-extending it, causing damage that now prevents the door from closing, according to police.

The vandals were also seen trying to push a large Elevation Burger advertising sign into the front seat of the cab, police said. The vandals also entered another cab and removed paper items and threw them on the hood of the vehicle, police said.
