Stolen Tools, Equipment Reported in Two Burglaries

Burglars broke into a closed gas station on Bloomfield Avenue and a home on Orange Road last week.

Two separate burglaries involved stolen power tools and equipment last week in Montclair.

On Dec. 7, a trailer in the Exxon gas station parking lot, at 264 Bloomfield Ave., was broken into. The gas station is currently closed while gas tanks are being removed.

According to reports, the padlock to the trailer was pried open, and multiple tools were stolen -- including a socket set, a generator, a chop saw, drill bits and a battery pack.

The next day on Dec. 8, a home was broken into on Orange Road that is undergoing renovations, according to reports.

Entry was made through the basement window which was later found to be boarded up. The contractor working on the home reported more than $1,500 worth of tools missing -- including a table saw, air compressor, framing gun, and handsaw.

A witness told police there were two men wearing dark hooded jackets at the scene. The witness saw the men loading the tools into a dark colored, mid-90s SUV -- possibly a Chevy Blazer -- parked in the driveway of the Orange Road home.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents can call the Montclair Police Department Detective Bureau at (973) 509-4706.
