Suspicious Man Asks Father: Can I Have Your Daughter?

Montclair police are seeking information about the man and if anyone else has experienced a similar incident.

A suspicious man approached a father and asked if he could take his daughter last week on Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair Police said.

The man was described as black, between 35 and 40 years old, about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds who was wearing a red baseball cap, red shirt and a beige jacket, according to a police report.

The man approached the father, who was with his 9-year-old daughter, on the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue at about 4 p.m. on May 10, the report said.

The man asked, "can I have your daughter?"

The man fled the scene before the police arrived.
