Taxi Bursts Into Flames In Lackawanna Plaza

A white, four-door Lincoln model Town & Country sent billowing smoke into the air around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

A taxicab erupted into flames Tuesday afternoon when electrical wires under the car began to spark, but caused no injuries or damage to surrounding buildings, Montclair fire officials said.

The white four-door Lincoln Town & Country was parked in front of the Pig & Prince Restaurant, at 1 Lackawanna Plaza on the corner of Bloomfield Avenue, when the fire started at approximately 4:48 p.m., fire officials said.

The taxicab driver reportedly saw the sparks and called police. However, when fire crews arrived to douse the flames, billowing smoke could be seen rising from the car.
