Teen Fights Thief Trying to Steal His Gift Card, Police Say

Altercation broke the front-door window of a Bloomfield Avenue bank Monday night, police said.

A Bloomfield Avenue bank window was smashed Monday night when a Montclair teen confronted a man trying to steal his gift card, police said.

According to police, the 18-year-old victim dropped a Visa gift card on the ground and confronted David Blakely, 24, of Montclair, when he picked it up and put it in his pocket at about 7 p.m. Monday.

The two men got into a physical altercation that broke the front door window of the Bank of America at 411 Bloomfield Ave., near the intersection of Glenridge Avenue, police said.

Blakely was charged with robbery and criminal mischief. His bail was set at $2,500.
