Two Cars Stolen in Montclair

Keys left in vehicles on Union and Franklin avenues.

A pair on Montclair residents had cars stolen days apart after leaving keys in the vehicles, according to police.

Officers responded to a Union Avenue home Monday morning after a report of a stolen vehicle.

The theft occurred sometime between midnight and 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 16 after an Acura RDX was inadvertently left unlocked with the keys inside at the residence, the victim told police.

A suitcase containing $1,000 in clothing and $3,000 in jewelry had been left in the car, according to police.

The next morning, Montclair police responded to a Franklin Avenue home after a caller told cops his 2003 silver Lexus IS300 had been stolen.

The victim told police that the car had been left warming up curbside for less than five minutes, but when its owner returned the car was gone.

Police are investigating.
