Violent Crime Trending Upward in Montclair, Report Says
Crime index slightly decreases for township, according to New Jersey State Police's Uniform Crime Report.
Violent crime is on the rise in Montclair, according to the Uniform Crime Report data released by New Jersey State Police Friday.
Crime reports compiled from Jan. through Sept. 2013 are shown against figures for the same period in 2012 in the report.
The crime index is down 4.6%, or from 549 to 524, according to the report.

Montclair saw two murders during the nine-month time period both years. Assaults and robberies are up year over year, while larceny thefts and auto thefts are down.
