Montclair Named Bicycle Friendly Community

First town in Essex County to be recognized by League of American Bicyclists.

The League of American Bicyclists named Montclair a Bicycle Friendly Community, the first community in Essex County and one of only five in the state to achieve the designation from the bicycle advocacy organization.

The BFC designation, awarded to Montclair at the Bronze level, recognizes the township's commitment to improving street safety through education programs, street infrastructure, and pro-bicycling policies.

The award will be presented to the Mayor and Council at the next Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m., at the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Ave., Montclair.

"Montclair is playing a critical part in creating a truly Bicycle Friendly America," said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. "We know Montclair’s investment in bicycling will be returned many times over in the health, environmental, and quality of life benefits of a thriving community.”
