Montclair Residents Oppose Nishuane Park Water Well

Second Ward Councilor Robin Schlager suggested a pilot program to monitor the township's water usage over six months to one year.

Several Montclair residents banded together Tuesday night against the township's master plan that calls for the development of a water well at Nishuane Park.

Residents oppose the idea and believe it's not necessary to take away and destroy park land when there is currently no water shortage.

Residents questioned Montclair Water Bureau Director Gary Obszarny motives, and preached to the governing body an alternative, stressing the benefits of water conservation and environmental justice.

Citizens raised the issue of the damaging effects the water well has had on the environment and the issue of cost that has nearly doubled from $2.6 million to $4.1 million.

“I thought it was just about the well, but it’s a lot more then that," one resident said. "Facts are changing constantly through manipulation and deception."
