Montclair Voters Chose Buono

Township remains true blue in 2013 general election.

While Gov. Chris Christie easily won re-election Tuesday, if voters in Montclair had their way State Sen. Barbara Buono would be New Jersey's next governor.

Residents in all of Montclair's four wards favored Christie's Democratic challenger and her running mate Milly Silva, a township resident.

Buono received 70.55% of the vote to Christie's 28.26%, according to unofficial results from the Montclair Township Clerk's Office.

Democratic incumbents for State Senate and General Assembly in the 34th Legislative District easily won in true blue Montclair.

Local voters also overwhelmingly supported the public question concerning raising the minimum wage, with 80.58% voting "yes" to bumping it $1 to $8.25/hour and 19.42% voting "no."

Of Montclair's 29,441 registered voters, 10,345, or 35.14%, made it to the polls.
