South End Business District and Master Plan Topic of Community Meeting

Montclair councilwoman Renee Baskerville wants to hear from Fourth Ward residents about the Master Plan for the township currently being reviewed by the Montclair Planning Board.

Councilwoman Baskerville will hold a community meeting Tuesday, August 27, at 7 p.m., in the Montclair Fire Department Headquarters, at 1 Pine Street.

The public will have an opportunity to discuss the recommendations for the South End Business District outlined in the plan, which can be viewed and downloaded from the township's website.
Recommendations in the draft of the plan include converting Orange Road into a two-way street in the business district, adding an all-way stop sign or traffic signal to improve pedestrian safety and establishing a bicycle route.

Residents from throughout the township, but mostly Upper Montclair, have been vocal at public hearings about their distaste for the plan's recommendation to build high rises in various areas of town.

In the first of a series of meetings to break down aspects of the plan, the Planning Board said they, too, are not in favor of buildings up to seven stories high in Upper Montclair and as tall as 10-stories in Montclair Center.

Can't make Tuesday's meeting? Baskerville recently launched a website, http://reneebaskerville.com/, where residents can share opinions and views.
